REACH

REACH - What does REACH?

REACH is: Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals. Key point is the transfer of responsibility for the safe handling of chemicals by the state authorities to the industry. The European chemicals directive will be implemented from 1 June 2007 gradually until 2019.

Not only the chemical industry is concerned: Also on the so-called "downstream users" of chemicals extensive requirements will come. "Downstream users" are all companies, which utilize and apply chemicals in the broadest sense  (eg manufacturing companies).

Main target of REACH is to protect human health and the environment.

Preparation:

A timely examination of the requirements of the REACH regulation is also important to the "downstream users". The information on the direct and indirect effects should be sure knowledge of the materials used in substances and preparations. In due time, you should also contact your manufacturer or supplier whether a registry of the substance is intended or the substance will further be on the market and delivered for the appropriate applications.

Furthermore, you should give your supplier at the appropriate time, the information about the uses of your substances and preparations in written form.

Information about the timing of REACH can be found here.
